A warning about this format, since we intend to keep using it. “Untranslatable word” lists are the most error-prone genre in culture writing. They flatten words with ordinary everyday uses into mystical artefacts, and the same handful get copied between listicles for decades without anyone checking. Every word here is one we can source, and we would rather cut a beautiful entry than repeat a pretty mistranslation.
